Over 100 children of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in the “F is for Free” dance event at Pacific West Gymnastics, running September 8 through 14.

Christopher Perkins, Special Events Director and Office Manager at Pacific West Gymnastics, started the “F is for Free” dance event as a means to offer arts enrichment education that gives back to the local community.  Children have the chance to participate in tap, ballet, hip hop and jazz classes completely free during this community event.

“We are excited to be able to offer our dance classes to the children of our community,” said Perkins.  More and more studies are showing the importance of Arts in education.  Dr. Terry Bergeson, who led an initiative to include the arts in public education, “Arts education not only enhances students’ understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their perspective on traditional academics.  The arts give us the creativity to express ourselves, while challenging our intellect.  The arts integrate life and learning for all students and are integral in the development of the whole person.”

Perkins said the initiative is part of Pacific West’s “more than just great dancing” philosophy.  “We teach dance, yes, but there’s so much more to living a rewarding life.  Programs such as this give us an opportunity to live that philosophy while teaching our students that everyone can do something to make the world a little brighter.”
