4 No Screen, At Home Activities For The Last Weeks of Summer Break

Mom and daughter baking together, laughing

Keep the kids moving, laughing, and learning — with minimal screen time and maximum fun.

We get it, the school year’s just around the corner, but those last few weeks of summer are a wild mix of restless energy and kiddos that are hard to entertain. These five activities will help your kids stay engaged, active, and even build a few skills that will make them better gymnasts while they’re at it.

1. Baking

Baking is an awesome, screen free activity that doesn’t only keep the kids occupied and results in some home baked sweets, but builds some helpful skills! Baking is a straight forward way to build fine motor skills, follow complex directions, and practice patience. This can translate to gymnastics skills like grip strength, and understanding that results follow hard work!

2. DIY Backyard Water Slide

A plastic tarp, a garden hose, and a little dish soap = instant summer magic. It’s a safe, refreshing way to burn energy that will keep the kids entertained for hours while building coordination, core control, and fearlessness!

3. Create a Living Room Floor Routine

Crank up the music and get some rest, let the kid’s burn some energy by choreographing their own floor routine. Dance moves, kicks, cartwheels, and dramatic poses are encouraged. This is helpful for creativity, rhythm, and body awareness, all super important for floor work in gymnastics.

4. Side Walk Chalk Course

Head outside and grab some chalk, it’s time to turn your driveway into an adventure. With the kids, draw a “floor is lava” style course with chalk zones, lines, and shapes. This is an awesome to build balance, core strength, and precision, all key elements for balance beam!
