Kids’ Cartwheel-A-Thon to Benefit HERS Breast Cancer Foundation

Pacific West Gymnastics hosts fundraiser, family fun event

Pacific West Gymnastic invites Bay Area kids and families to the first annual “Tumble for a Cure” Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. in Union City. The family-oriented event aims to raise funds and awareness in conjunction with the nation-wide Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The day’s main event, the Cartwheel-a-thon, gives participating gymnasts of all ages one minute to complete as many cartwheels or forward rolls as they can during the allotted time. Each individual skill performed is worth $1 in donations, or a flat rate donation of $20. Donations can be made by sponsoring an athlete or as a general donation.

The event also features raffles, prizes, refreshments and a bounce house and games for kids. The top fundraiser will receive two Disneyland tickets, second place receives an iPod nano and third place receives a giant teddy bear.

Pacific West Gymnastics hopes to raise at least $5,000 for the local, non-profit breast cancer organization, HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. The Pacific West family would like to honor the memory of Barbara Nicholson, a beloved friend, team parent and preschool gymnastics coach at Pacific West Gymnastics who passed away in May after a five-year battle with cancer.

Kids and parents of all ages are welcome to participate in the fundraiser. Participant forms can be found at www.pacificwestgymnastics.com/barbspinkparty.
